Privacy Policy
In short: we do not collect any data from Cutwright. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. Your projects stay on your Mac. When you choose to connect an outside service, Cutwright talks to that service directly, with your own key, and we never see what is sent.
What stays on your Mac
- Your projects, media, recordings, transcripts, captions, footage analysis, scripts, and shot notes are saved in the project files and folders you choose.
- API keys you add (for AI providers, voices, stock footage, and sounds) are stored in your Mac’s keychain.
- Your plan and the count of projects that used cloud AI are kept in your Mac’s keychain, so reinstalling the app does not reset them. They are never sent to us.
- Speech recognition, scene and beat detection, face and text detection, background removal, and Apple Intelligence run on your Mac.
Services you choose to connect
Some features use an online service, but only after you set it up and only when you use that feature. Cutwright sends the request straight from your Mac to the service under your own account and key. That service’s own privacy policy applies to what it receives.
| Feature | Service | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| AI: scripts, shot descriptions, Plan mode, caption translation, highlights, the agent chat | The AI provider you pick: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, OpenRouter, Groq, Mistral, DeepSeek, xAI, or a custom or local server (Ollama, LM Studio) | Your request, plus the text, transcripts, and still frames that request needs |
| AI voices | OpenAI or ElevenLabs | The text to be spoken |
| Stock footage and photos | Pexels, Pixabay | Your search words; the files you pick are downloaded |
| Sounds and music | Freesound | Your search words; the files you pick are downloaded |
| Extra speech recognition languages | Hugging Face | A one-time download of the speech model you choose; nothing of yours is uploaded |
If you use a local server such as Ollama or LM Studio, your requests stay on your own machine or network.
Outside agents (MCP)
While Cutwright is open, it offers a Model Context Protocol connection on 127.0.0.1, which only programs on the same Mac can reach. If you connect an agent such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor, that agent can read and edit the open project, and what it does with that information is governed by the agent’s own terms. Agents cannot start a recording.
Camera, microphone, and screen
Cutwright uses the camera, microphone, and screen only while you are recording a take you started. Pointer movements, clicks, and keystrokes (keystrokes only if you turn that on) are recorded only during that take. Everything is saved inside your project and is never uploaded.
Purchases
The Pro upgrade is sold through the Mac App Store. Apple handles payment and gives the app only a confirmation that you own Pro. We do not receive your name, payment details, or Apple ID.
Apple services
Cutwright uses Apple frameworks on your Mac, such as speech recognition, translation, Vision, and Apple Intelligence. When macOS needs to download a language or model for one of them, or when you send a crash report to Apple, Apple’s privacy policy applies.
Children
Cutwright does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and its effective date. If Cutwright ever starts collecting data, we will say so here and in the App Store listing before that version ships.
